Tips for Malaysian travellers

  • Check your arrival airport. The 999 bus, Burapha minibus and Bangkok Airways flights all use Suvarnabhumi. If you land at Don Mueang, allow extra time to cross Bangkok.
  • Leave in the morning. Late departures risk missing the last ferry at 18:30.
  • Avoid long weekends. Visit Thailand Today reports a 7 km car queue for the ferry on 1 May 2026.
  • Carry cash for the ferry and songthaews.
  • Don't book a same-day flight home. Book a morning departure from Koh Chang. Avoid evening international flights on travel days.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Booking the 999 bus at Ekkamai when you're flying into Suvarnabhumi. The bus stops at both.
  • Arriving at the pier after 18:30.
  • Expecting the Centrepoint ferry to run.
  • Assuming all through-tickets go to your hotel. Some stop at the pier.
